OSU! I'm pleased to welcome you on the Honbu of Montreal's official website. In our dojo we teach a particular known as Kyokushinkai and which was founded by late Sosai Masutatsu Oyama (1934-1994).

Throughout his life and experience, Sosai Masutatsu Oyama always endeavoured to gather and improve the best elements of various martial arts in order to develop a unique style and strong philosophy, the Kyokushinkai karate.

Thanks to him the organization of Kyokushinkai currently represents in Japan, Canada and everywhere around the world, the largest school of karate do, with more than 12 million followers spread amongst the five continents.

Sosai Masutatsu Oyama left us an invaluable heritage and we can only be extremely grateful to him. It is therefore in the perspective of continuing Sosai Masutatsu Oyama's tradition that we practice and teach Kyokushinkai karate.

What can Kyokushinkai Karate do for your child?

One of the best gifts you can give your child is to give them the opportunity to live a successful life by providing a powerful tool that will help them gain self-confidence, patience, discipline, self-control, humility and self-respect. Our Kyokushinkai Karate program is aimed to teach children self-defense while increasing their level of concentration and thus helping them obtaining better grades at school.

  Hyperactive children:

Kyokushinkai Karate provides effective physical and mental relaxation and it helps hyperactive children to channel their energy.

  Shy children:

Kyokushinkai Karate will help shy children gain self-confidence and fulfill their true potential.

We enroll children from age four and up.

  Women and self-defense

The learning process of realistic and effective self-defense techniques may take more time and be more difficult for most women than for men. The reason is quiet simple. The odds of facing a stronger and heavier opponent, who is more experienced in street fighting, are much higher for women than for men. Kyokushinkai Karate brings many techniques of self-defense for both women and men. It teaches all kinds of effective manners to defend your self, that it is with the legs, the arms or with common objects, which can be transformed into defensive weapons. Kyokushinkai Karate also provides an excellent tool to master your mind, body, fear and anger, so you may always take the best decision in the event of aggression.

The most effective self-defense technique is the ability to foresee the assault and therefore find ways to avoid it. Kyokushinkai Karate will guide you to reach this sixth sense in a very effective way.

A sound mind in a healthy body

Kyokushinkai training techniques unify the development of both mental and emotive concentration. Our meditation and breathing methods help our students control their emotions. We guide them as they gain positive thinking and adopt an open-minded spirit with others. A good training often helps cure physiological pains, such as mental health, depression and in some cases hypertension, arthritis and diabetes.

Advantages of karate for adults over 30

With the Kyokushinkai training methods, an adult will see his/her physical state improve week after week. If compared with himself/herself and not with young people, they will see weekly improvements. In the true aspect of self-defense, the adults are favored. Their maturity enables them to judge more quickly the effectiveness and the limits of the martial arts techniques that are taught to them. Adults will see their self-confidence and self-control improve much faster. They will however keep a realistic attitude that will carry them towards an attitude of non-violence rather than useless provocation and confrontations.

If you are 30 or older and you want to try Kyokushinkai Karate, don't hesitate! It is never too late to try!
